Man of color born in 1874 in Atlanta, GA. He was 58 at the time of his death on 10 June 1932 in Pensacola, FL. He died of chronic myocarditis, chronic nephritis, and general anasarca, for which he had been treated by Dr. W.E. Anderson ince April 29. He worked as a stevedore on the waterfront and was married to Annie White. There is no information on his parents. He lived at 519 N. Tarragona St., Pensacola and he had been living in the area for 15 years. The informant on his death certificate is Napoleon Brown, whom I have identified as his stepson. He was buried at the Escambia County Poor Farm by Morris Funeral Home.
While he was supposed to have been in the Pensacola area for 15 years, I have had trouble identifying him in any records. He married Annie Brooks (aka Annie Brown White) on 8 June 1915 in Escambia County, FL. I believe I have found him and Annie in the 1920 Census, but Annie Brooks’ age fluctuated so wildly in the records in which I have found her that I cannot say for sure it is them. If so, he and Annie were living at 313 Jackson Street and he was a laborer in the timber industry at the time. He was born in Georgia about 1881, of two parents born in Georgia.
A Thomas White was listed at 410 N. Oliva St. in Pensacola, employed as a bayman, in the 1927 and 1931 City Directories; however, I cannot place him with Annie (who appeared to be living with her son, Napoleon, on Tarragona St.)
Annie Brooks, whom I have matched with at least three men through marriage or other association, seemed to have continued to use Thomas’ name after his death, though I have yet to locate a death record for her.
A man by the name of Simon Jefferson was the owner of the house at 519 N. Tarragona St., where Thomas died. I have not established any relationship; Thomas may simply have been renting from him.
