Marianne Quigles*

An enslaved girl in the household of Don Miguel and Doña Maria Prieto Quigles in Pensacola, Florida.

Born about 1814, probably in Pensacola. Race is described as Negro.

Bill of Sale: 17 March 1827 – The Quigleses sold Marianne to Francis Pasquier for $400. She is described as being about 13 years old at the time. (Escambia Co. [FL] Deeds, A/483)

Bill of Sale: 10 December 1827 – Francis Pasquier sold her to Francis Bobe for $400. (Escambia Co. [FL] Deeds, B/14)

In both deeds, she is described as “a Creole slave of this place.” While Creole had several meanings, the phrase would seem to indicate she was born in Pensacola.
