Baptized on 19 September 1819 by Father James Coleman at St. Michael’s Parish (Spanish Pensacola). At that time, his age was estimated at 26 years. The baptismal record has no information on his parents or origins. His godfather was Carlos Noriega, moreno; and Maria Luisa, morena. Because he was an adult, he was baptized after a test of Christian doctrine.
