John Bird

White male, born about 1858. He died at the Escambia County Poor Farm on 16 April 1933 at the estimated age of 75. He died of chronic myocarditis, with probable malignancy of prostate. There was no information on his death certificate about where he was born or who his parents were, or even his marital status. Dr. W.E. Anderson had apparently been treating him since February 15 of that same year, but there is no other indication as to how long he had been at the Poor Farm, or in the city or state.

Without any of this information, it is difficult to identify him out of the several John Birds who lived in the area during his hypothetical lifetime. The only John Bird that appears in the edition Pensacola City Directory published closest to his death (1931) was a man of color.

He was buried by Waters & Hibbert at the Escambia County Poor Farm cemetery.
