Black male, born about 1860 in Georgia. Died 11 April 1898 in Pensacola, FL. Father and mother were both born in Georgia. John worked as a cook and had been in the state for 3 years at the time of his death. He was married at the time of his death. Cause of death was heart disease. He was buried in the Escambia County Poor Farm cemetery.
There are very few records of John in Pensacola because of the short time he was in the city before his death. The Pensacola News for 18 June 1896 shows he purchased County license No. 834 for a restaurant, at a cost of $1.04.
He married Celia Pool on 5 May 1897, by Father R. Fullerton of St. Joseph’s in Pensacola.
The 1898 Penscola City Directory listed him at 404 S. Baylen St., which was both his home and the restaurant he ran.
The next time he appeared in the records was his death. The Pensacola News printed the notice on 16 April 1898.
