Eusebio Sorbies

A man enslaved in the household of Doña Maria Machado, the widow of Don Benito Caro.

Born around 1805 in Alabama. Race is recorded as negro.

Bill of Sale: 4 August 1823 – Sold to Joseph Esteban Caro (Maria Machado Caro’s son) for $425. Eusebio was estimated at about 18 years old at the time. (Escambia County [FL] Deeds, A/99)

Bill of Sale: 5 January 1824 – Sold to Jacques Sorbies for $450. (Escambia County [FL] Deeds, A/143)

At some point after that, Eusebia must have been manumitted as he is listed in the 1850 Census for Warrington, Florida. It shows him as Osibio Sorbies, age 45, Black, born in Alabama. No occupation listed.
