White male, born about 1862. He died at about the estimated age of 70 at the Escambia County Poor Farm in the Goulding area, Pensacola, Florida on 11 July 1932. His regular residence was given as West Main Street in Pensacola, with no further details; his occupation was Fisherman. His marital status, birthplace, and the identity of his parents, were all indicated as being unknown. The informant on the death certificate was J.W. Kelly, the Superintendent of the Poor Farm. The cause of death was chronic myocarditis, chronic nephritis, and neurosis, for which Dr. W.E. Anderson had been treating Mr. Brooks since July 1, 1932.
I have found it is unusual to see a death certificate for someone who died at the Poor Farm that does not also list the Poor Farm as the person’s residence. My suspicion is that Mr. Brooks went to the Poor Farm – or was perhaps sent there when his illness grew too dire for him to care for himself – and his death came soon after.
Without having a full first name or any information about his origins, finding verifiable information on him is next to impossible.
