Benjamin Barclay

White male, born around 1819 in Nova Scotia, Canada. Died of senility in Pensacola, FL on 16 March 1896 at the age of 77. He was single at the time of his death and worked as a seaman. His father was born in Baltimore, MD and his mother in Nova Scotia. His death certificate indicates he had been in the state for 16 years. He was buried in the Escambia County Poor Farm cemetery.

There is a Benjamin Barclay in the 1890 Pensacola City Directory, an engineer living on 3rd Avenue. He also appears in the 1898 directory, which means he is not the same man as the decedent. At the moment, I have not been able to find Benjamin in Florida during the time he should have been in the state. There are genealogical records for a Barclay family of Scottish descent in Nova Scotia, but I have not been able to link Benjamin to it. Resesarch continues.
