Juliana Villalonga*

A free woman of color in the household of Juan Villalonga in Pensacola, Florida.

Born around 1781 in Africa. Race is recorded as negra.

Appears in the 1820 Spanish census of Pensacola sharing the homes of Juan Villalonga, a baker who was born in Spain. The three children in the home were listed as negro, so it is unclear whether they were Juan’s or not, but families of mixed ethnicity were quite common in Spanish West Florida. Juan and Juliana were likely living as husband and wife, and she may have used his surname.
