Ignacia Roche*

An enslaved woman in the household of Don Jose Roche in Spanish Pensacola.

Born around 1780 in Virginia. Race is recorded as negra.

Baptized on 11 January 1818 by Father Josef de Agustin Briones, Chaplain of the Louisiana Regiment of Infantry, at St. Michael’s Parish (Spanish Pensacola). At that time, Ignacia’s age was estimated at about 38 years old. Mother was named Rosa, but no information on her status is given so it is likely Rosa was either deceased or still in Virginia. Father is not mentioned in the record.

Don Jose Roche was a shopkeeper from Spain.
