Victoria Michelet*

An enslaved woman in the household of Henry Michelet.

Race is recorded as negra.

Appears in the baptismal records of her daughters from St. Michael’s Parish (Spanish Pensacola): Juana in 1817 and Maria Encarnación in 1819. In each record, the father was listed as unknown in baptismal record (this usually meant the father was unwilling or unable to acknowledge the child).

Appears in the 9 June 1823 Bill of Sale of her daughter: Henry Michelet sells Jeanne Nepomucena, a black female about 6 years old, “born in my own house of the slave Victoire,” to Adelaide Tallasco, a free woman of color, for $250. (Escambia Co. [FL] deeds, A/58)
