An enslaved girl in the household of Don Manuel Gonzalez. (There were three men by the name of Manuel Gonzalez in the 1820 Spanish census of Pensacola; only two were referred to as Don. Research continues to confirm which one is the owner of Margarita.)
Born in Georgia about 1815. Race is recorded as negra.
Baptized on August 20, 1820 by Father James Coleman at St. Michael’s Parish (Spanish Pensacola). At that time she was estimated to have been about 5 years old. Both parents are listed as “unknown” in baptismal record.
