Born 1 November 1838 in Pensacola. Race recorded as negro. While I have found baptismal records from St. Michael’s Church for his siblings, I have not yet located one for him.
Deed of Manumission: 12 December 1838 – Celeste Tala de Villiers manumitted Richard, the “lawful child” of Sophie and Auguste.
Richard appears as a 12-year-old in the 1850 Census of Escambia County, along with his mother and younger sister, in the household of Celeste Tala de Villiers and her sister, Constanza Tala de Alba (both widowed), along with the family of Manuel and Victorie de Villiers Pargas.
