John Burk

Black male, born about 1860 in Georgia. He was 68 years old and widowed at the time of his death on 1 June 1928 in Pensacola, Florida, of tertiary syphilis (from which he had suffered for 10 years). He was an ice peddler by traied. His father was Gus Burk; his mother, Vina Byrd, both of Georgia. The informant on John’s death certificate was Ephraim Byrd of 101 North F St., Pensacola. John’s last place of residence was DeSoto Street between I and J Streets (known now as West DeSoto St.), Pensacola. He had been in the city for 38 years at the time of his death. The physician who signed his death certificate and who examined him on 31 May was Edward F. Aarons, Jr., a physician of color in Pensacola.

John was buried by T.M. Lloyd on 4 June, in the Escambia County Poor Farm cemetery.

I have not been able to locate records for anyone listed in the death record, in Pensacola or Georgia.
