Ella E. Bird

Black female, born about 1865 in Alabama. Both her parents were also born in Alabama. She died at the age of 38 of peritonitis on 20 December 1902 in Pensacola, Florida. She was married at the time of her death, and had no occupation outside the home. She was buried in the Escambia County Poor Farm by Northup & Wood.

I have not been able to conclusively identify Ella in records of the time. There are several Black men listed in the Pensacola City Directory by the name of Byrd, none of whom are matched with a wife named Ella. The 1898 and 1903 directories show an Ella Bard, but she does not appear to be married and I cannot match her with the information on her death record.
